Yahaya Bello once again fails to appear in court for alleged 84 billion naira fraud case

Federal High Court in Abuja has maintained that Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi state, must appear in court to address the fraud charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The court rejected Bello's application questioning jurisdiction and seeking to set aside an arrest warrant.

Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that no can be heard without the defendant being present, citing section 396(2) of the administration of the criminal justice act 2015. Due to Bello's repeated disobedience of court orders, he will not be allowed to file any applications or have his arguments heard.

The judge noted that Bello's actions are an attempt to impede proceedings and hinder the court from continuing with the case. Justice Nwite emphasized that this shows a lack of respect for the court.

It appears that Bello is trying to delay or evade accountability, but this tactic will not. His attempts at media propaganda against EFCC will not help his situation. Today's ruling marks another significant setback for him.
