The bail plea of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was denied by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja on Tuesday.

Despite this, the court ordered an expedited hearing for Kanu's case, which revolves around charges of treasonable felony.

Kanu, held in custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021, expressed concerns over his treatment, alleging constitutional violations.

His legal team requested a recess to consult with him, citing difficulties in communication and his unchanged attire. The court granted the recess, allowing for consultation.

Kanu, addressing the court, claimed inadequate medical care and requested relocation to Kuje prison or house arrest, both of which were denied by Justice Nyako. The trial is scheduled to commence on April 17, 2024.
