The Department of State Services (DSS) has clarified that it did not prevent Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), from contacting his family and legal representatives.

Dr Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the agency, addressed this matter in an article titled "The DSS operates within its mandate" on Tuesday. He mentioned that the excessive celebration over a court order granting Emefiele access to his lawyers and family was unnecessary.

Dr Afunanya noted that due to the biased mindset that triggered negative media reports against the DSS, it wouldn't be surprising to witness an increase in unfounded criticism and baseless attacks in the public domain, particularly concerning the investigations involving Godwin Emefiele and Abdulrasheed Bawa, among other trivial issues.

He added that certain groups and individuals may fabricate frivolous allegations against the DSS and its leadership, possibly using disloyal members to spread false information, propaganda, and hatred with the intention of tarnishing the organization's image.

Acknowledging the adversaries' ability to mobilize forces against the government and its key officials, the DSS remains committed to its duty without compromising professionalism, despite the potential distractions they may create. The DSS reassures that it will continue to carry out its responsibilities resolutely and in accordance with professional standards.
